If you experience moderate to severe hay fever symptoms during high pollen months and the standard treatments aren’t working, we offer prescriptive hay fever treatment to help you with your symptoms. What is hay fever? Hayfever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is a common allergic condition that affects the nose and sinuses. It is caused by an allergic reaction to airborne allergens, such as pollen, mould spores, pet dander, or dust mites. When a person with hay fever comes into contact with these allergens, their immune system overreacts and releases chemicals such as histamine, leading to inflammation and symptoms in the nasal passages. The symptoms of hayfever can vary in severity and may include: 1. Sneezing 2. Runny or stuffy nose 3. Itchy nose, throat, or eyes 4. Watery, red, or puffy eyes 5. Postnasal drip 6. Coughing 7. Fatigue Hayfever can be classified into two main types: seasonal and perennial. 1. Seasonal hayfever: This type of hayfever occurs during specific times of the year when allergen levels are high, such as during the spring and fall when trees, grasses, and weeds release pollen. Symptoms tend to be more prevalent during these seasons. 2. Perennial hayfever: Perennial allergic rhinitis occurs year-round and is usually triggered by indoor allergens, such as pet dander, dust mites, or mould spores. Symptoms may persist throughout the year and can be exacerbated by environmental factors like changes in humidity or temperature. Hayfever can significantly impact a person's quality of life, leading to discomfort, irritability, and disrupted sleep. If you suspect you have hay fever or are experiencing symptoms of allergic rhinitis, it's essential to consult with our nurse prescribers for an accurate diagnosis and to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific symptoms and triggers.
